History

First time, in September 1984 when Mumbai Headquarters hosted the Sixth Congress of Secretaries, NIPS had created awareness of its existence. Mrs. Homai Mehta was the President of NIPS (now IASAP) at that time. We had 500 participants from all over India. There was immense pre and post congress publicity, since it was the first time such a mega event was being organized by Secretaries in India.

Mrs. Homai Mehta followed up on the curiosity generated in the larger cities. She contacted Ms. Alka Narang who was working in the Taj Hotel in Delhi. After protracted correspondence and couple of meetings, Ms. Alka Narang was able to harness a team to come together to form the Delhi Chapter. In November 1986, Mrs. Zarine Commissariat, then NIPS President inaugurated the Delhi Chapter. The General Manager of Hotel Taj Palace, Mr. S. Warty played a major role in the inauguration of Delhi Chapter.

National Conventions

All India Conventions are hosted by the Chapters in rotation.

IASAP-Delhi Chapter was the proud host of 4th All India Convention in February 1995 and Twelfth All India Convention in September 2011.  Both the events were a great success and widely publicized by the media.

This retreat was dedicated to ‘IT Professionals’ only but on request as a special case they took our website and FB page details, went through the same, called a special meeting for IASAP and gave approval for 30 members only.

We went ahead with the event as our Late Immd Past Chairperson Ms Jyotsna Pathak used to say that ‘Show must go on’ and that was my only motivation to sail through.

‘CHARITY DONATION DRIVE’ on 21st Jan 2024 held at AIIMs, New Delhi

HIGHLIGHTS

IASAP kicked off this year with the first and foremost event of Charity on 21st January 2024, Sunday @ 1130 hrs. at AIIMS. This exceptional idea of charity was much appreciated by all members. This year MC organized things in an altered way and endeavors were put in by members to support this event. It was a chilling and foggy day and members were in doubt whether we would be able to do the charity but with God's blessings and MC's determination all went well as planned.

This time MC chose to do charity for poor patients and their relatives staying outside AIIMs hospital so decided to distribute samosa, biscuits and lots of old clothes, shoes, saris and other stuff. Rashmi started from Gurgaon at around 9am after collecting samosas and biscuits. Everyone had a target to reach AIIMS by 1130 hrs. It was quite a chilly morning with 8 deg temperature. We had to re-position ourselves from AIIMS to in front of Safdarjung Hospital as the Police didn’t allow us to stand in front of AIIMS. All the courageous (6 members) ladies gather and start taking ownership of the same.

Big queue was made to distribute the samosas - Rashmi and Leena started distributing paper plates and Anita (who was accompanied by her husband) followed them with a pouch of tomato ketchup. Rajiv (husband of Rashmi) took initiative and started distributing samosas. He took efforts to assist Rashmi with all the stuff from Gurgaon and accompanied her till the end with his unconditional support. Neeru along with Uma and Swaran started distributing Samosa. Meanwhile Gobind (Husband of Neeru) took efforts to streamline the process as there was too much curiosity among people there. Gobind also helped us in clicking our photographs.

After charity we decided to have lunch which was at Evergreen Restaurant at Green Park. All present members had a wonderful lunch which was sponsored by Ms. Leena Lobo on her 75th birthday, which was a surprise and disclosed later by Rashmi. Everyone appreciated Leena’s kind gesture and loaded her with wishes.

During lunch MC had a quick meeting with Past Chairperson alongwith esteemed members followed by separate MC meeting.

Later while everyone was leaving, MC handed over a few samosas and packets of biscuits to be distributed while way back home by everyone.
MC also gave a small cake to all volunteers as a token of appreciation.

Overall it was a wonderful day and was concluded by 1630 hrs.

Events 2023
Educational Trip 8-11 December’23 , Udaipur

HIGHLIGHTS

With great enthusiasm and excitement, the event was kick-started with God’s blessing by the Chairperson Rashmi Budhraja. She thanked all the members wholeheartedly for joining the event. Committee Member, Neeru Kalra read the IASAP Profile followed by Committee Member, Annapurna, introducing the Speaker – Mr Eklavya Sinha. The Chairperson requested life member Ms Anuradha Subramanian to welcome the Speaker with a bouquet.

DAY1 With great pleasure, Delhi Chapter organized an Educational Tour to Udaipur from 8th till 11th Dec. Provision of stay was arranged at Padmini Bagh Resort & Spa, Udaipur. The resort is spread over nearly 4 acres of lush green lands with the serene Girwa valley, surrounded by the Aravalli Mountain.

Pleasant welcome with garland and special drink was served by front office team with special Dhol greetings for every individual. After check-in everyone went for breakfast which was enjoyed by all. IASAP gave surprise to all by upgrading their rooms to villa. After lunch we all took half day mini-bus ride for popular tourist destinations such as the City Palace, Jagmandir and Fateh Sagar Lake. City Palace, A majestic architectural marvel towering over the lake on a hill surrounded by crenelated walls, it is a conglomeration of courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms and hanging gardens. The main entrance is through the triple arched gate, the "Tripolia" with eight marble porticos, The Maharanas were weighed under the gate in gold, the equivalent amount of which was distributed among the populace. The surajgokhada, the balcony of the sun, is where the Suryanshi Maharanas of Mewar presented themselves to the people in the time of trouble to restore their confidence. The 'MorChowk' known for its exquisite peacock mosaics in glass and the 'ChiniChitrashala' noted for its blue and white ceramics are other attractions in the palace.

Jagmandir- Now a hotel but was originally called Jagniwas and served as a summer palace. Built between 1743 and 1746 on the island near Jagmandir in Lake Pichola, the palace, which faces east, is a wondrous sight to behold. The walls made of black and white marbles are adorned with semi-precious stones and ornamented niches. Gardens, fountains, pillared terraces, and columns line its courtyards. Jagmandir is a palace built on an island on the Lake Pichola. Also called the ‘Lake Garden Palace’, the construction for this began in 1620 and was completed around 1652. The royal family used the palace as its summer resort and for hosting parties. Interestingly, Prince Khurram - later Emperor Shah Jahan - was given shelter here when he rebelled against his father Emperor Jahangir. The Palace had such an impact on Emperor Shah Jahan that it went on to become the inspiration for one of the most magnificent Wonders of the World, The Taj Mahal

Fateh Sagar Lake. This delightful lake, bordered by hills and woodlands, lies to the north of Lake Pichola. This artificial lake is connected to Lake Pichola by a canal. The lake houses the beautiful Nehru Island as well as an islet on which stands the Udaipur Solar Observatory. It was inaugurated by the Duke of Connaught and was initially called Connaught Bundh.

Guide was there to welcome us with tickets ready for Sunset Boat Ride at Lake Pichola. After the detailed explanation about the places, guide took us to show famous puppet show where members of IASAP also grace the stage by dancing with artists who were performing the special dance form of Udaipur. After that we came back to hotel to enjoy Hi- tea and dinner.

DAY2 Second day seems to be quite busy for everyone. Day started at 0830 hours, we started our day by visiting Brahma Kumari’s centre and took blessings of Shiv Baba (It was not in itinerary but on few members request it was given complimentary). After that we headed for guided tour of Udaipur visiting the City Palace including museum - where ToyTrain drive was enjoyed by all and all became child for once (It was also arranged complimentary by IASAP as mostly was senior members).

An impressive bronze statue of Maharana Pratap on his favourite horse Chetak, stands atop the Moti Magri overlooking Fateh Sagar. Local people climb up the hill to pay homage to Rana Pratap and his faithful charger 'Chetak' who was fiercely protective about its master and stood by him till its last breath. This loyal steed sacrificed its life while carrying his master to safety from the battlefield of Haldighati. After concluding museum, we visited Jagdish Temple where everyone took benedictions of God. - An example of the Indo-Aryan style of architecture, Jagdish Temple was built in 1651 and continues to be one of the most famous temples in and around Udaipur. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the structure is an architectural marvel with carved pillars, graceful ceilings and painted walls. This three-storied temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh I.

Lunch was already scheduled and reserved at one of the famous Natraj Restaurant, whose Thali system is quite recognized and acknowledged. Later we visited the Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace - Situated just outside Udaipur, this 19th-century palace is built on top of Bansdara hills. Used as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge, its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, originally planned to make it an astronomical center. The plan was cancelled with Maharana Sajjan Singh's premature death. It is still an awe-inspiring sight on the Udaipur skyline and offers spectacular views of the city and the areas around.

Then we visited Sahelion Ki Bari - Built by Maharana Sangram Singh II as a garden for women, Saheliyon-ki-Bari or the Garden of the Maidens is a popular tourist destination. Along with a small museum, it has several attractions such as marble elephants, fountains, kiosks and a lotus pool. On the way back we took a round of Fateh Sagar Lake. We came back to hotel to enjoy tea with hot pakoras

All ladies were delighted to hear that terrace restaurant to be inaugurated by them and first meal of this restaurant i.e. dinner is being organized by hotel at Terrace. Everyone enjoyed and loved variety of food offered at buffet.

DAY3 It was quite relaxing day when compared with day before. Easy, long and relaxing breakfast on terrace with sunshine and Aravalli views. Surprise was planned by IASAP in co-ordination with hotel. They have arranged Aqua Zumba class for all ladies. Instructor was arranged by hotel for ladies to dance and enjoy the serene water Zumba with warmth of sun and joy of everyone’s presence. Full one-hour joyous moments, fun, dance and music leads to wonderful lunch.

After amazing lunch sightseeing tour was planned to Eklingji Temple and Nagada.

Nagda - is 22kms from Udaipur, an ancient site located at the foothills of the Aravali range and has traces of 6th century A.D. Today it is renowned more for the intricately carved Sahastrabahu temple popularly known as Sas-Bahu temples that date back to the 9th - 10th century A.D. The interesting architecture and elaborate carving can also be seen in the magnificent toran or archway. Also of interest is the splendid Jain temple of Adhbudji located there.

Eklingji - Eklingji Temple is one of the most famous temples of Rajasthan. Located in the town of Eklingji (Kailashpuri), the place got its popular name from the temple. Eklingji Temple is positioned at a distance of 22 km in the north of Udaipur. Eklingnath Temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva of the Hindu religion. Initially, the temple was built in 734 A.D. by Bappa Rawal. Since that time, Eklingji has been the ruling deity of Mewar rulers.

After taking blessings from Lord Shiva – we move ahead to local market for shopping and then headed to hotel for tea. Another surprise waited for us after hi tea - Kathputli show with Dinner at the Terrace restaurant. Everyone enjoyed puppet show were in other in-house guests were enjoying too.

All came back happy and with lots of memories to cherish.

"Boss’s Day" celebrations – 29th October 2023 Session on "Power of Compassionate Communication" At Safdarjung Club, New Delhi.

SPEAKER: Mr. Eklavya Sinha

Topic delivered: COMPASSIONATE COMMUNICATION
Learnings from session:

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a language of compassion. It gives us the tools and consciousness to take responsibility for our reactions and to strengthen our connection with ourselves and others. It allows us to express ourselves clearly and honestly without causing any harm or hurt to anyone. When we communicate using NVC, there are 4 components, which are called OFNR in short. OFNR stands for observations, feelings, needs and requests. Let’s look at them: Observation - this is about stating things without judgment or evaluation. So instead of saying "you were rude to me in the last meeting", you say “in our last team meeting, you said that the email I had sent was stupid and vague.” Feelings - we often use the word 'feel' loosely. For example, we often say here I feel like you don't listen to me. But that is not really describing a feeling. It is a thought or a judgment. What is the real feeling? Maybe it is - I feel lonely or upset - is the honest description of what one is feeling in that moment. So, in this example, I would say something like “In our last team meeting, when you said that the email I had sent was stupid and vague, it made me feel sad and confused.” Needs: In NVC, needs are really important. Because, in every single situation, there is a basic need of ours, that is met or is unmet. And understanding and naming that helps us improve our relationship with ourselves as a foster understanding with others. For example, one could say something like “when you said that email was stupid and vague, it made me feel sad and confused because I was looking for more clarity on how I could improve it. It also did not need my need for respect.” Request: In NVC, request is different from making a demand. The key distinction between the two being that when you make a request you are willing to take no for an answer. But when you make a request with your observation, feeling and needs, it gives full transparency. And if one request doesn't work, you try a different request. Life Member, Rani Bopanna felicitated the Speaker with a token of Gift from IASAP. The Chairperson, then invited all 7 Past Chairpersons on stage, showed gratitude towards them by touching their feet as they are Foundation of IASAP Delhi Chapter and Boss in real meaning and took their blessings. Womens Day" celebrations – 12th March 2023, Session on "Embrace Equity" at The Grand Orion, A-60, Near Block-A, Main Road,Kailash Colony Metro Station, New Delhi 110 048

HIGHLIGHTS

With great enthusiasm and excitement, the great Women empowered event “Womens Day” with God’s blessings, was kick-started by the Chairperson, Rashmi Budhraja. She thanked all the members whole heartedly for joining the event. Secretary cum Treasurer, Radhika Srinath, then read out IASAP profile. Following that Ms. Rashmi Budhraja, introduced the Guest Speaker – Ms. Shalini Khanna Sodhi, Founder and Director of NAB India Centre.

Mrs. Sodhi gave many examples of innumerable women and girl children about their fear to explain their problems or to overcome from the present scenario. The Speaker gave an example to explain that during one event, they gave sewing machines to low income ladies to earn their living. After some time when she asked about the status of money earned / products which they made, they came up with so many issues – sewing machine they got but no place to put in the small house, in some cases – sewing machine is given but they don’t have money to buy threads or accessories. So, only giving things to low income group is not a solution, we need to get into their needs, their ability to do the work and then gifting which is called “Embrace Equity” – 1. Giving justice to the persons by understanding from where they are coming from, 2. Getting into their problems and 3. Then do justice to their imbalances.

Project BPC team was also invited so that members present get acquainted with the team, know them for whom they are giving voluntary contribution. When the team shared all information in depth with the members, everybody was so delighted and also appreciated Chairperson for selecting the team for the BPC project.

That was just to share extended practical example on the topic ‘Embrace Equity’.

Hyderabad Convention
With great pleasure, we wish to inform you that Tawleen Kaur did exceedingly well at the All India Secretary Administrative Professional Contest held on 19th September 2015at Hotel Avasa, Hyderabad.  She was Second Runners despite stiff competition from 13 more contestants (two Regional Winners from each Chapter).  The Convention was attended by more than 250 delegates from all over India and the judges were amazed at the excellent quality of Contestants, who were brilliant, highly intelligent and knowledgeable.  Tawleen was fantastic, especially during the Presentation and personal interview, witnessed by all the Chairpersons from respective Chapters.  The competition was neck to neck and in the final Extempore round, in the presence of a hall packed with women administrative professionals of high standing from all over India, Tawleen though confident and in full grip of her subject narrowly missed the Title. Click
August 15 SAPC Final
This is the most awaited event in IASAP but still when we received just three applications for the contest, we were in a dilemma whether we should go ahead with this and whether it is worth spending so much of money on three contestants.  We turned to Homai for advice.  She was very clear that we should go ahead with the Contest but instead of announcing the winners, the best two candidates may be sent to Hyderabad for the All India Finals, so that AISAPC became a more convincing contest.  We are glad we heeded Homai’s timely advice or we would have missed really promising contestants.  The ladies going for the finals at Hyderabad are smart, intelligent, and highly confident.  We have high hopes from them.  The SAPC Regional Final of Delhi Chapter was held at Hotel Holiday Inn, Aerocity, where the final Extempore round was held.  Since it was 15th August, the flavor of Independence Day could be felt all around.  The guests were welcomed with a tricolor badge and the program started with a patriotic song followed by Saint Kabir’s couplets sung by Vandana and Anjana.  Then began the Extempore round on stage, which was enjoyed by all present.  Jyotsna presented a dance on Vande Mataram and thereafter, the results were announced by the judges followed by a lucky draw and solo songs sung by Anjana and Vandana.  The dinner was excellent and appreciated by all.  Click

January 24-26 - Trip to Ranthambhore
Ranthambhor National Park, once a princely game conserve is the scene where the celebrated Indian tigers are best seen. Ranthambhor Tiger Reserve lies on the junction of Aravali and Vindhyas just 14 Kms from Sawai Madhopur in Eastern Rajasthan. It sprawls over a varying and undulating landscape. The scenery changes dramatically from gentle and steep slopes of the Vindhyas to the sharp and conical hills of the Aravali. A tenth century fort also blends amicably with the background. Pure sands of Dhok (Anogeissus pendula) interspersed with grasslands at the plateaus, meadows in valleys and luxuriant foliage around the canals make the jungle. Three big lakes – Padam Talab (meaning Lake), Malik Talab and Raj Bagh – are similar turquoises studded in the vast forest that abounds with aquatic vegetation including duckweeds, lilies and lotus. Some of our ladies went to Ranthambhore and enjoyed there. Click

Early next morning we went for trekking in the green hills.  We had the opportunity of  bird watching and enjoyed their chirping as our Organiser is a bird lover.  He told us a few tips on how to identify some of the hill birds. After breakfast we visited a Monastery nearby.  The idol of Mahatama Buddha in the inner Chamber was stunningly magnificent and the place was calm and quiet.  The calm atmospher there took us to a new world!  Looking at the idol we all went into a tranquil state.  We all prayed there. Clicked some pictures to capture some exquisite architecture and returned to Resort for lunch.  In the evening we proceeded to main Kasauli town for shopping etc.  Everyone picked up the stuff of their choice and we returned to the Resort where the hot piping dinner was waiting.  After dinner ladies enjoyed some dance and music and had fun.

Past Chairpersons

Jyotsna Pathak (2020-2022)

Having 40 years experience as Executive secretary with top management in different organisations. Presently working as PRO with with Chandiwala Trust Society running educational institutions and a hospital in South Delhi. A poet herself, having interest in music and dance.

Anjana Tandon (2018-2020)

“Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”

The meaning behind the quote is profound - a leader cannot lead without knowledge and a desire to learn, and must continue learning in order to maintain a position of leadership. We learn many things on our way to success. Life is composed of ups and downs. Learning to get through the downs is the key to being successful. ....Without obstacles, difficulties, struggles and challenges, life wouldn't make much sense. You become stronger, more compassionate, and more grateful when you strongly believe in your capacity to persevere. The most successful people know what it's like to persevere and savor victory, personally and professionally--and so can you. In my journey of these two years I had some great experience, support from the Managing Committee and IASAP members of the Delhi Chapter. It was really a great learning experience during lockdown when I gave training on technical skills to all the chapters of IASAP. I learned how to convert “challenges to opportunities”. Such type of decisions broadened my vision and helped me thinking positive always. I also learned the lesson of “move on in any situation” and “think out of the box”. A BIG thank you, to all the members, who believed in our team and attended the events, webinars and training sessions, organized by us in these two years. Active participation has always motivated us to do much better.

Vandana Kalsi (2016-2018)

IASAP gives us opportunities all the year round to learn, polish our communication skills, groom ourselves as followers when we are a part of the MC Team, and train us as Leaders when we don the mantle of a Chairperson. We develop an identity apart from being just an EA or Secretary to a Boss.  We learn to organize, we learn to work in a team, and ...we develop as strong human beings. Rome was not built in a day and so it is with us.  A good Secretary or EA takes several years to come into her real profile and effective professional presence.  Apart from hard work, persistence and sustained efforts at learning in office environment, the self-development and grooming opportunities that we get in IASAP are unparalleled.

Anita Khosla (2013-2016)

As a Chairperson I faced lot of challenges but was able to overcome the same with the help of my supportive team.My motto was to see IASAP grow and achieve a strong footing and to this effect I tried my level best. At times there were some obstacles but by and large it was a learning and enriching  experience, and most important value for time.

Meenakshi Dhanda (2010-2013)

Those were challenging times for Delhi Chapter.  However, we managed to retain and add new members. We hosted the 12th IASAP National Convention –  ‘From Silver to Gold  - The Challenge of Change’ successfully, supported by past Chairpersons and Committee Members. This included Delhi Chapter ‘s Silver Jubilee, and Secretary and ...Administrative Professional Contest, at Radisson Blu, in Septmber, 2011. A visit to Kingdom of Dreams etched joyous memories in the minds of the 250 participants. Following IASAP’s prime objectives, workshops, seminars, quizzes, informal visits and get-togethers for the development of members were conducted periodically.Subsequent office-bearers have handled their responsibilities well. IASAP has become more vibrant, and let us take this august association to greater heights.

Kavita Bhatia(2006-2010)

Greetings to all !

It’s been a privilege to have worked as  Chairperson of IASAP, Delhi Chapter from 2006 to 2009.  IASAP is a great platform for professionals and heir to the glorious tradition of learning and growing on this platform.   There is an insatiable thirst for knowledge, skills and personality development amongst the Administrative Professionals. I am  proud that IASAP is a unique platform which provides an opportunity to learn and grow as much as we can to excel in our chosen profession....... IASAP has come a long way since its inception. My heartiest congratulations to all the stalwarts of Delhi Chapter who have contributed in the past and to the new team for its commitment and relentless efforts in making IASAP, Delhi Chapter grow leaps and bounds.  Working  in the managing committee of  IASAP  truly exemplify the Latin quote “nil sine labore” which means “Nothing without labor”…. All the best to the wonderful team and my best wishes to each and every member of IASAP…

Shirley Samuel (2003-2006)

i joined IASAP in the year 1998 (if I remember correctly) and attended few events which were very professionally organized by the committee members. I was very intrigued and interested  in event planning and hence in the year 2000 under the leadership of the Chairperson Anjana Jacob I took over the mantle of Secretary. It was very challenging and great learning for me personally to organize events each month to perfection. We revived many outstation workshops which were well attended by the members each year. Thereafter, I was nominated the Chairperson of the Delhi Chapter in the..... year 2003.More challenges came my way and with the help of very learned and experienced team mates and the past chairpersons I carried on the responsibilities of the chair. During my entire duration on the committee I grew professionally and personally with support and advise from my seniors. I also made some good friends with whom lot of memories are cherished. It was wonderful time spent well. I take this opportunity to thank all the past chairpersons and colleagues who were part of my team and ofcourse our dear members who attended all the events in great numbers which encouraged us to give them good programs.

Anjana Jacob(2000-2003)

I am privileged to have been the Chapter Chairperson in the Millennium year.   My tenure was a roller-coaster ride of learning and pushing limits, interspersed with sprinklings of friendship and invaluable support received from my team and  members of IASAP.

In the year 2000, the Delhi Chapter switched to electronic form of communication with members. In 2001 the All-India Directory of members was launched and we accomplished the herculean task of updating  our members  database and digitizing it. Delhi has won the prestigious..... SOTYC title twice at the All Asian Level at ASA. In 2002, Madhu Rajesh won the International title in Brunei and I can proudly attribute this credit to Delhi Chapter under my Leadership. Being at the helm when NIPS changed its name to IASAP in April 2003 was indeed momentous.I am happy and proud to state that I am the only Past Chairperson who has represented Delhi Chapter at 11 National Conventions and one International Congress. My regular attendance at events over past 31 years will vouch for my sincerity to see IASAP grow to greater heights!!!

Veera Mavalwala (1997- 2000)

I had the pleasure of being Chairperson of erstwhile National Institute of Proffessional Secretaries for 4 years and also has the privilege of conducting two "Secretary of the Year Contests". During one of these Contests, the Delhi Chapter Winner was the 1st Runner Up in the All India Finals in Mumbai..... During my four years tenure,  we had eminent Speakers like Field Marshall Manekshaw, Dr Kiran Bedi and many Management Gurus who conducted very high quality Workshops. In 2011,  I was asked to take charge of the IASAP Delhi Chapter and organised the National Convention with the help of my old Team in a very short time. IASAP has been my passion since I joined in 1998 and will be there for me for a long time!
