West Bengal Chapter was the third unit of NIPS to be formed. Back in 1985, an enterprising Secretary named DAPHNE STOCKMAN took up the reins as Chairperson, to form the West Bengal Chapter. Guided, directed and supported by Headquarters, she handpicked a group of fellow lady Secretaries to be the Committee Members and collectively they took up the challenge of establishing the IASAP – West Bengal Chapter or NIPS as it was then known. They nurtured and cared for the Chapter, moulding and shaping it along the way, and today we are proud to tell you that soon we shall be 25 years old!

The First Managing Committee comprised:

DAPHNE STOCKMAN - CHAIRPERSON
MAROLLA MENAUD - VICE CHAIRPERSON
MOLLY MANI - HONY. SECRETARY
ITI MISHRA - HONY. TREASURER
DINAZ SADRI - COMMITTEE MEMBER
CELINE D’CRUZ - COMMITTEE MEMBER
ELIZABETH HO - COMMITTEE MEMBER

Since then the following Chairpersons have ably captained the ship steering it to maturity:
MOLLY MANI / PRISCILLA ANKLESARIA / RADHA ENGINEER / MARGARET BOURNE / MICHELLE SELWYN / BAKHTAVAR SHAW / PHILOMENA EATON / LYDIA DAS / RUMELA MUKHERJEE

The Chapter held a Secretary of the Year Contest in 1986 at the Regional level and this was won by Ms. Shirin Jagtiani of ITC. The Head Quarters subsequently introduced the contest on an All-India level with the winners and runner-up of Regional Chapters competing for the All-India crown. In the first All-India Finals in 1987, the National Winner was Ms. Philomena Eaton of our Chapter. West Bengal holds a commendable success rate at the all-India SOTYC. The last three consecutive SOTYCs have seen the West Bengal Chapter emerge as Second Runner-up at the all-India finals: Madhulika Barman of ABN Amro Bank in 2004; Dianne Hooper of Eveready Industries India Ltd. in 2006 and Mohua Shome Lalvani of Karam Chand Thapar in 2008.

West Bengal Chapter was once regarded as the ‘Jewel in the Crown‘ of NIPS. It is therefore, up to all you members to work together to bring in to bring in young and enterprising members of quality so that the institution can once again shine in "Professional" glory.

Although many members have retired/immigrated, we still have a modest strength of approx. 175 members.
