Outgoing Chairperson's speech

And now IT IS TIME TO HAND OVER THE BATON -

What a journey it has been - I had a great stint here and I am proud to have been a part of the exciting phase of the Chapter’s journey thus far.

When I accepted this role, I had many fears. I wasn’t afraid of the work involved or the multitude of personalities I had to deal with. My biggest fear was that we wouldn’t accomplish everything that we had envisioned, but we did. I must admit that some achievements did not happen because of our efforts alone – you dear members were also responsible by attending in numbers. The road has been rocky and rough to say the least but then, I did discover that I may be the CHAIRPERSON but WE are a TEAM. With this team in place we recognized that “communication” is the key to the success of our Chapter.

One thing we were sure about and that was TRUTH and TRANSPARENCY. We must be willing to fail and to appreciate the truth that often, after all life is not a problem to solve but rather a mystery to be lived. We learned many hard lessons along the way importantly - ability may get you to the top but it takes character to keep you there.

Thanks for your belief in me, your support and your friendship. None of us achieve in isolation and the successes we've enjoyed together have been the result of our mutual cooperation and collaboration. It's a pleasure and a privilege to have worked alongside colleagues who understand how to bring out the best in each other.

Whilst meeting deadlines, planning events and tending our daily jobs, homes etc., in the middle of our busy lives: it's all too easy to lose sight of the most important element of all in any association – the person, the people. Us. You and me, as individuals with hearts, minds, and feelings. That we don't do these things, is what makes our Chapter unique. Thanks to all the past chairpersons for your inspired leadership. Thank you to my team: Dhanalaxmi, Sharon, Sabrina, Monica, Radha, Dinaz and the sub-committee Navaz, Donna, Jessie, Effie, June, Judy, for your trust in me, for your humor and all your hard work. Special thanks to Jessie and Lidya – Miss Dependables – you never refused when I sought your help. I would also like to place on record my gratitude to team AIGC, HQ and in particular Homai, Vimala, Edna and all the Chairpersons of the other Chapters who have in some way provided encouragement and insights.

Today is my last day as the Chairperson. I have always believed that your team makes you who you are & this Committee along with the Subcommittee members has made me better than who I was when I started my role here. A team with incredible energy, passion & an indomitable spirit. A team that truly believes in ‘making a difference’. I am really proud of what we have accomplished together here & how we have grown as a unit. A shout – out to all the members who made my time here special. I hit jackpot with you ladies!

Many of our Past Chairpersons have proved that IASAP holds a very special place for them and now as I step down I understand the meaning of it all. We must give back to IASAP all that we have gained and more. My advice to the new committee – Be humble, Welcome the challenges and look for the opportunities in every situation to learn and grow in wisdom so that IASAP flag flies high all the time! – this is a dynamic chapter, and I am certain that the new leaders will be able to count on your continued support in the months and years ahead. I assure you on their behalf they will continue to deliver the service that you have come to expect from them. WB Chapter is a high energy, high-performance association very much alive and kicking.

In closing I must say that I am in competition with no one. I run my own race. I have no desire to play the game of being better than anyone, in any way, shape or form. I just aim to improve, to be better than I was before. That’s me and I’m free. Thanks again ladies.

Sincerely,
DIANNE
